Heart Fly Through
Below is the process for modelling the blood cells and creating the animation of the heart fly through. The heart model itself is from BodyParts3D, licensed for making educational content. This animation is for the Centre of Anatomy and Human Identification at the University of Dundee.
Isolating the heart model from BodyParts3D.
Planning the path the blood needs to flow in for the animation.
Creating a 360 degree view to help students contextualise what they are looking at.
Blood cell modelling.
Blood cell texturing.
Isolating other key elements from the heart, like the valve leaflets.
Test animation and texturing. This texture was closer to that of a tongue and not the smooth and stringy heart muscle.
Texturing the heart by hand instead.
Finished effect of sculpted texturing.
Isolating the blood supply to texture and colour it.
Colourisation of the blood supply using the nodes function in Blender, similar to that used for the heart.
Making some of the valve leaflets semi-transparent.
Organising them in their appropriate locations.
Isolating all leaflets after the decision to make them separate objects, allowing for these to be textured with a different effect to the rest of the heart.
Testing the new texturing and colouring for the valve leaflets. I later changed the colour to better reflect the leaflets as they appear in life.
Final animation texts of camera positions and focal lengths.
